Kornit Digital has unveiled the Presto Sublimation MAX, a hybrid printer that combines pigment-based color and sublimation in a single pass. The system targets the polyester sportswear and activewear market, where traditional sublimation requires transfer paper and a calendar press. The Presto Sublimation MAX prints directly onto polyester fabrics, using Kornit’s NeoPigment inks for the base layer and a new Sublifix topcoat that fixes dyes under heat. This eliminates the need for transfer paper, reducing consumables cost by up to 60% and cutting waste by 80%.
The printer has a maximum print width of 1.8 meters and can run at 200 m²/h in production mode. It includes an integrated dryer and fuser, creating a complete roll-to-roll solution. Kornit CEO Ronen Samuel stated: “This is the first single-step digital solution for polyester that doesn’t compromise on vibrancy or wash fastness. Our tests show Grade 5 wash fastness after 50 cycles at 60°C.”
The Presto Sublimation MAX is priced at $1.2 million, positioning it for industrial manufacturers rather than small shops. Namun begitu, Kornit also offers a click-based “Print-as-a-Service” model with no upfront capital, charging per square meter printed. The first unit has been installed at Brazilian sportswear manufacturer Vulcabrás, which produces jerseys for soccer clubs. Vulcabrás reported a 45% reduction in lead time and the ability to offer same-day custom jerseys.
