Epsonas has begun shipping the SureColor G9000, a high-production direct-to-film printer announced earlier this year. The G9000 includes an Epson-manufactured 2.64-inch PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead with symmetrical nozzle arrangement, achieving a default resolution of 1,200×600 dpi. The printer uses 1.6L UltraChrome DF ink pouches, reducing changeover frequency. A built-in front heater and after-heater prevent ink dripping and expand media compatibility.
The G9000 can handle rolls up to 1.626m wide and features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, signal lamp, and internal print-area lighting. Automatic daily maintenance includes a fabric wiper that cleans the printhead and automated cleaning of the suction cap. The printer ships with Epson Edge Print Pro and Fiery Digital Factory Epson Production Edition RIP software.
Available through authorized Epson resellers, the G9000 is sold as a printer-only unit, with reseller partners supplying compatible powder shakers or curing units. “With the launch of the SC-G9000, Epson is strengthening its leadership in the fast-growing DTFilm market,” said Phil McMullin, head of sales at Epson UK. “Customers have told us they need greater productivity, more reliability and less hands-on maintenance. The SC-G9000 delivers on all fronts.”
The G9000 also features an improved ink recirculation system that reduces white ink sedimentation. The printhead’s variable droplet technology (3.5 į 21 picoliters) ensures smooth gradients and fine text. Epson claims the G9000 achieves a 20% higher uptime compared to its predecessor.
